Matthew Vaughn has stated that he’s working on another movie for the Kick Ass franchise that focuses on Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) and her father Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). Kick Ass (2010) is based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. The first movie gained a certain cult popularity that sparked interest in a sequel Kick-Ass 2 (2013). Unfortunately the sequel was a little clumsy and overreaching and was not received as well.
In a recent interview with Yahoo News, Vaughn mentions that he was “not happily done with the franchise“. He went on to explain his plans: “We’re working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit Girl and Big Daddy become Hit-Girl and Big Daddy… If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn’t like ‘Kick-Ass 2’ and then we can go off and make ‘Kick-Ass 3… I think we’ve got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with ‘Kick-Ass’“.
Both Moretz and Aaron Taylor-Johnson who played Kick-Ass have showed an interest in reprising their roles for Kick-Ass 3, if it happens. For a prequel though, Vaughn would have to get Nicolas Cage on board and it would be interesting to see how he would resolve the issue of his female leads visible signs of having grown up from an adorable 13 year old, when we first met Hit Girl to the 18 year old beauty she is now.
That is a massive continuity problem. Everybody loves Hit-Girl, the character is the clear fan favorite from the series and would no doubt love to see how she develops from a child vigilante hero into an action superwoman as long as Moretz wants to play her. If they can get around the age issue somehow so we could see the father daughter team becoming their crime fighting alter egos, I’m sure fans would buy into that.
