For a while there it looked like Charlize Theron was gearing up for the role of Christian Grey’s ex Elena Lincoln in Fifty Shades Darker. But let’s face it, that rumour was never particularly credible. Now Variety has revealed who will be joining Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson for the next instalment.
It turns out that another Oscar-winner has signed on to play Elena Lincoln, namely Kim Basinger. Lincoln is “Mrs. Robinson” a character who is only alluded to in the first film/book. She is a business partner and former lover of the mysterious and magnetic Christian Grey, who later becomes antagonistic towards Ana Steele.
Basinger is no stranger to big screen erotica, she is perhaps best remembered for her role in the 1986 erotic drama 9 1/2 Weeks. James Foley is set to helm Fifty Shades Darker, taking over after Sam Taylor-Johnson. Foley is also set to direct the third instalment Fifty Shades Freed. Niall Leonard will be penning both instalments. Fifty Shades Darker is slated for a February 10, 2017 release.
