Kllo are back with a soundtrack for all your introspective needs with new single “Potential“.
The Melbourne duo are usually known for slightly more 2-step, syncopated electronic music with previous releases “Dissolve” and “Bollide“. So the move by cousins Chloe Kaul and Simon Lam towards a slower, more soulful sound may be a little surprising but is by no means unwelcome.
“Potential” opens with a tack piano solo (the tinker sound you might recognise from saloon bar scenes in classic Spaghetti Westerns), a gentle prelude to Chloe’s distinctive vocals and Simon’s offbeat, almost old-school R&B production. The chorus really loops and soars with the lyrics “you make it hard, you’re so good to me it hurts”, that are layered with what almost sounds like an ice-cream truck music box.
The pair also released a film clip directed by Freya Esders for the track, which you can check out below.
