Kristen Stewart, Twilight’s Bella, is to star in Karl Lagerfeld’s short film that tells the story of a fictional, behind-the-scenes look at the preparations for the portrayal of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Stewart will play an actress who is getting ready to portray the company’s iconic founder, Coco Chanel, in what has been described as a “mini-movie” with oodles of style and glamour. The film is set to debut in December at the fashion house’s 12th annual Métiers d’Arts show.
Lagerfeld and Stewart filmed the project over two days in a Paris studio belonging to French filmmaker Luc Besson. Unusually, Lagerfeld only gave the cast their lines minutes before filming and encouraged improv, accounting for the awkward fragmentation of the dialogue. Lagerfeld praised Stewart’s performance, saying that “she played it really, really mean. She’s mean with the director; mean with the producer“.
