On December 3, Billboard shared an outspoken and passionate interview with their Woman of the Year, Lady Gaga. Of the nomination, the “Til It Happens To You” artist said: “It speaks volumes to me that I’m being recognized as Woman of the Year in 2015. This is the year I did what I wanted instead of trying to keep up with what I thought everyone else wanted from me”.
The interview covers a lot of ground, but centers on the music industry and emphasises the need for musicians to be recognised for their talents, not their marketability. “You can’t sell your soul once you make it. It’s a big mistake to just go after the money to try to stay on top. I think that’s what everyone wanted me to do. But I’m a different kind of girl”, she stated. The message seems to be: do what makes you, not somebody else, happy. To read the empowering interview in its entirety, click here.
