Borg Vs McEnroe looks to be a hit in the latest trailer showcasing the infamous tennis rivalry. The Swedish film comes from director Janus Metz.
Borg and McEnroe met 14 times on the regular tour and 22 times in total; between 1978 and 1981, each player son seven times against the other. Their contrasting temperament – Borg known for being calm and McEnroe for his tantrums – highlighted the on-court rivalry.
Shia LaBeouf stars as McEnroe having approached production upon reading the script which he claims made him cry. LaBeouf is no stranger to working on international films having worked with Lars von Trier on the controversial Nymphomaniac films, which also starred Stellan Skarsgård who appears as Borg’s coach in this film. Sverrir Gudnason plays Borg and looks uncanny, too.
The film looks raw and full of drama. It’s gritty and promises to tell the tale of icons.
Borg Vs. McEnroe is not the only tennis drama of the year. Battle of the Sexes stars Emma Stone and Steve Carell as Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, respectively, recreating the infamous 1973 match with a lot to play for.
Borg Vs. McEnroe comes to theatres this September. Watch the trailer below.
