The American television channel, AMC, have given the green light to their new series Isle of the Dead. The miniseries will be spinoff of AMC’s The Walking Dead, and will star Lauren Cohan and Jeffery Morgan. The show is set to premiere some time in 2023.
The Walking Dead first aired in 2010, and follows a group of survivors as they struggle to stay alive during a zombie apocalypse for eleven seasons. The show and has won an plethora of awards including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Make-up.
Isle of the Dead will become the fifth spinoff series to be added to The Walking Dead Universe. It will follow the characters Maggie and Negan played by Cohan and Morgan, respectively. In the miniseries, the two survivors will find themselves in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan which is cut off from the mainland.
Along with The Walking Dead cast members, crew from the original series will also be working on the spinoff. Eli Jorné was a writer and co-executive producer on the original will serve as the showrunner. Scott M. Gimple who was the chief content officer or The Walking Dead will oversee the spinoff.
In a statement made about the upcoming series, Gimple explains that “Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, grimy madhouse of the dead for Negan, Maggie, and fans of the show should be eager to discover an unseen and insane world of the The Walking Dead Universe“.
