Lea Porcelain vocalist Markus Nikolaus just made available his second track, “HOLD ME CLOSE,” through his label imprint, Porzellan Bar.
The song is an exciting, cheerful jam that has a funky bassline and a wicked hip-hop beat that reminds listeners of early Beastie Boys tracks.
The soft yet resolute voice embraces the sensation of being entirely encompassed by sound, much like the melodic piano entrance gives the listener the impression of settling softly into a warm bath. It has a unique quality in that it feels like a jam session and you are directly involved in it, taking it all in and giving it life.
Lea Porcelain recently played a long-awaited sold-out tour in support of their most recent album Choirs to Heaven through Germany, with the Grand Finale performance taking place in Funkhaus Berlin’s Saal 1 after touring extensively throughout Europe with bands like alt-J, Apparat, and many more. There is now room to explore new areas for Markus.
According to his explanation of the song, “This track came to me during a very dull guitar practice and I was just fiddling the same line over and over until it got the groove. When I recorded it and put a little beat underneath – it was like a bee-sting and I added more layers, Jammy and improvised but heartfelt vocals, and an edgy little guitar fill that caught me from practicing Arabic guitar scales.
All in all, I got wrapped up in a “Dream Baby Dream” suicide vibe mixed with the upbeats of Beastie Boys “Ill Communication” Album that was still reverberating in my mind head. The song is about going out, taking your sweet by the hand, looking into each other’s eyes, and dancing all night. The fireworks at the end of the song resemble a new beginning. Which it was”.
