Months ago, the indie rock singer and multi-instrumentalist artist Sufjan Stevens announced his upcoming mixtape The Greatest Gift, which is full of outtakes, remixes and demos from his 2015 album Carrie & Lowell.
In this album of tenderness and delicacy, the Detroit artist opens up his heart and gives free vent of thoughts about the complex relationship with his mother. Also, during the session of this 2015 project, Sufjan made “Wallowa Lake Monster“, which he released a month ago, and serves as the first track from this touching new mixtape.
On this single, he talks about his childhood singing “But have you heard the story of my mother’s fate? / She left us in Detroit in the rain with a pillow case / Fortune for the paper weight“.
Since 2015 Stevens hasn’t released any solo album, his last project was in 2017 when he has collaborated with Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner and McAlister for Planetarium.
This new collection that include 12-tracks, with four previously unreleased songs “Wallowa Lake Monster”, “The Hidden River of My Life“, “City of Roses” and “The Greatest Gift“, is set to be out on November 24.
But today, before the official date it’s possible to stream this unique and beautiful project via NPR.
