Introducing 23-year old London-based singer and songwriter OLI with her new single titled “Cry”, which comes with an accompanying music video crafted by Gabriella Salonga and Heini Sussane.
The song “Cry” is led by OLI’s irresistible vocals and gently crescendoing synths and it calls upon the listener to embrace the therapeutic benefits of crying to help make sense of our problems. The song is co-written and produced by legendary producer Benny D (Stormzy, Boy George, Paloma Faith, Depeche Mode), who is also behind OLI’s upcoming collaboration with Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Cry”, OLI says, “I specifically wanted ‘Cry’ to focus on that numb feeling, when you’re unable to even process your emotions and let them go […] The constant back and forth of knowing something isn’t right inside but wanting to keep going and not seem weak. I’ve always felt crying in general is underappreciated”.
She also speaks further to the benefits of crying, adding that “The second half of the song is describing how good you feel after. How things really can become clearer in your head if you allow yourself to let it out and stop judging yourself for it”.
OLI is becoming well known and revered for her lush ethereal soundscapes, expansive and inspired visuals and non-conformist songwriting as her last single “Don’t Give Up” showed, landing a top 5 position in the Taiwanese alternative chart. She is continuing her formidable form into this new track “Cry”
