Lyves is the amazing solo project of British-born Italian Australian singer, songwriter, and producer Francesca Bergami and Change is her brand new sophomore EP.
Lyves has been teasing fans with songs like “How Would It Feel,” “Shame,” and the EP’s title track for a while now, garnering support from BBC Radio 1, The FADER, Complex, Wonderland, Notion Magazine and COLORS along the way.
Produced by Lyves and Mercury Prize nominee Dave Okumu, Change is a genre-defying masterwork from Lyves with roots in alternative R& B and progressive soul. It also draws inspiration from jazz, trip-hop, breakbeat, UK garage, psych-rock, folk, and New Age, an dcaptures Lyves at her finest and most genuine yet.
The project, which is focused on healing and transformation, takes the listener on a journey from loss to joy while also assisting them in discovering their actual selves. Lyves says it best, “this quote ‘Everything that you love, you will eventually lose, but in the end, love will return in a different form’ from Franz Kafka comes to mind for this project”.
The project was created over the last two years, and it begins with the song “21 Days,” which finds Lyves yearning for a long-lost love who never shows up. This song establishes the aural tone for the remainder of the EP.
Then follows “Shame,” a breakbeat, future garage, and retro soul fusion that furthers the project’s musical experimentation, and “The System,” an inspirational hymn to Lyves’ healing and self-love.
On “Blindfold” and the title track, “Change,” Lyves explores the duality of hope and how it can sometimes lead to denial. She also learns how accepting change can be a savior and help you find your way back to yourself.
