Mac Demarco has spoken recently about his new found friendship with the Strokes’ frontman Julian Casablancas. They first met when Julian’s team reached out and proposed a coffee date, as Demarco told NME in an interview. Mac also joined The Strokes on stage at a recent festival in the US. Demarco commented: “Julian’s great, a real sweetheart“.
“I was like ‘What the fuck?!” I felt weird and so did Julian I think but when we did finally meet up it was fine, although I was really drunk. He said, ‘Hey man, I really dig your tunes. It was crazy to find out he’s a dad, doesn’t drink, doesn’t do drugs. He just has an insane haircut and plays soccer“, DeMarco also added about his reaction to when they first met.
When the pair found themselves at the same Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, Mac watched The Strokes perform from the side of the stage. “[Julian] said my name so everyone thought I’d played guitar onstage. I hadn’t but I went with it, it’s such a funny thing to have on your track record”, Mac DeMarco confessed to NME.
