Rising British songstress Mahalia has today unveiled her brand new single “Proud of Me” which features the incredibly talented London based rapper, Little Simz. This new cut was produced by Maths Time Joy – who also produced Mahalia’s stand-out debut single “Sober” and is a perfect example of brilliant, honest lyricism.
Mahalia reflects on her journey so far on “Proud of Me”. A rich mix of Soul, R&B and hip-hop, you can really see those elements influence this song and her artistry as a whole. Mahalia’s silky vocals and sass holds it all together perfectly. It’s a very personal cut, where she just exclaims her desire to keep it real and make her closest proud. And for Little Simz? Her guest verse proves they are totally on the same vibe.
“I wrote this tune not long before my Birthday last year. It the first time in my short music career that I had stepped out on my own.” Mahalia told i-D. “I stumbled for a while I think… tried to get my priorities straight. But, once I understood that, everything kind of fell in to place.”
“The one thing I have always said that makes me truly happy is knowing that my family, friends and you guys are proud of what I have achieved. I’ve always wanted to work with Little Simz. So, this was crazy for me. She gave me all the extra magic that I needed.”
