New Line Cinema’s quest to bring 80s nostalgia into the contemporary world with their adaptation of video game, Rampage, continues.
Billions star, Malin Akerman, is in talks to play the villainess, a calculating head of a tech company behind the three creatures set to wreak havoc on North American cities and landmarks. Basically, think Independence Day but instead of aliens destroying the Empire State Building, it’s huge gorillas, crocodiles and wolves…Hey, it was the 80s.
Assuming Akerman signs on, she’ll join a cast that already includes action star Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, PJ Byrne, Jack Quaid, Matt Gerald and Breanne Hill. San Andreas director Brad Peyton is helming the project.
Will most of the general public know of the movie’s 80s video game origins when it hits cinemas marketed as a huge, Godzilla/Independence Day mashup? Probably not. But adding an actor as good as Akerman to an already solid cast will help. The film is set to begin pre-production in April in Atlanta.
