Mariah Carey is set to join the star-studded cast of the upcoming Lego Batman Movie, but there is some confusion as to what role she will play. While at first Twitter was rife with speculation that she could be voicing Commissioner Gordon (we’d all love to see that), there are now claims that she may in fact voice a new character, the Mayor of Gotham. These two character claims are due to conflicting publications by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
The singer joins a cast full of star names, including Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred the Butler), Zach Galifianakis (The Joker) and Rosario Dawson (Batgirl). Whether it be for the role of Commissioner or Mayor, the casting is a surprising one, but much like the glorious key change in Mariah’s 1995 hit “Always Be My Baby”, if not a little unconventional and uncomfortable at first, I’m sure we’ll grow to love it. The movie is going to hit the screens in 2017, and I can’t wait!
