Mark Strong In Talks To Play Villain In DC’s ‘Shazam’ | Film News

Mark Strong is stepping into the villain’s shoes once again, this time in talks to play Doctor Sivana in New Line’s Shazam. He joins Zachary Levi in the project directed by David Sandberg, the filmmaker behind Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation.

Part of DC Comics, Shazam (also known as Captain Marvel, though the name is avoided due to DC/Marvel conflicting issues) is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking the magic word “SHAZAM” can transform himself into a costumed adult with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight, and other abilities.

Strong’s character, Doctor Sivana, is known as Shazam’s archenemt. Depicted as a respected scientist trying to save his family from an unknown plight, the Doctor desperately turns to magic though with great consequences.

Mark Strong certainly seems perfect for the role. Not only does the character have experience in villainy – and shares a great likeness to the character – but he’s also no stranger to DC. He starred as the villain, Sinestro, in 2011’s Green Lantern opposite Ryan Reynolds. More recently, Strong can be seen in the Kingsman films.

Filming will begin in February 2018, hoping for a 2019 release.
