Marshall Cook (Film Fest) is set to direct Will Sasso in Champions Of The Universe, a comedy-drama the two have written together. The film will tell the story of a former college football star who misguides his elite athlete son while diluting himself in a small town flag football rivalry with his son’s stepfather.
Peter Farrelly is on board as an executive producer, while financing for the project is being put up by Anamorphic Media Inc. The company’s Founder & CEO Sara Shaak will also produce alongside Cook and Sasso.
“Will and I put a lot of love into this script and there’s no one better for the lead role than him,” said Cook in a statement. “Sara is incredibly savvy and I’m beyond grateful she was able to put this together. Having Peter Farrelly join the team is literally a dream come true.”
Sasso added, in perhaps the most succinct statement ever: “Gonna be a good movie.”
Cook is best known as an actor, having appeared in the Billy Bob Thornton Amazon series, Goliath.
But he has previously directed a few films including last year’s Film Fest, which also featured Sasso. Sasso is probably best known for The Three Stooges remake and his main roles on shows such as Loudermilk and Mom.
Champions Of The Universe will reportedly head into production in British Columbia, Canada in the autumn.
