Matt Wills has released a brand new track, “Wallflower” off his forthcoming album, Cigarettes & City Lights.
Wills’ rich vocals come through beautifully on this soft, pleasant and The XX-esque melody. “Wallflower” has an especially strong chorus heightened by the very nice guitar picking that can be heard in the background.
Wallflower really showcases, Wills’ talent in merging both electronic, and guitar compositions together where neither one overshadows the other but remains in harmony with Wills’ voice.
Praised by the likes of Halsey, Huw Stephens and Luke Pritchard of The Kooks, Matt Wills is definitely one to watch out for, with Notion Magazine insisting that, “It looks like Matt Wills is coming for Ed Sheeran’s guitary-rap crown.”
On the topic of his debut album following themes of turning weaknesses to strengths:
“I wanted to just show that every vice – be it cigarettes, alcohol, sex or those little Reese’s Pieces things with the peanut butter – is just a release some sort of chemical in your body that makes you want more.” explains Matt. “We are all addicted to something. I wanted to show the little bit of darkness in something beautiful.”
The question that Matt asks us now is, “What even is a Wallflower?” Well, have a listen to “Wallflower” and find out down below.
Matt Wills’ highly anticipated debut Cigarettes & City Lights will be released by Virgin & EMI Records on July 21. If you want to catch Matt Wills’ live, he’ll playing at London’s, Omeara on June 29. Tickets can be found here.
