Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey is set to play the leading role in the film The Stand, based on the fantasy horror novel by Stephen King. It is set in post-apocalyptic America, where a life-threatening plague has wiped out a large proportion of the human race. It is rumoured that McConaughey will play the film’s villain Randall Flagg, he tries to form a new civilisation, while the hero of the piece Stu Redman is immune to the plague. The director Josh Boone has revealed that the actor could play either role. The film will be released through Warner Bros, and no production date has been announced.
