Get ready to dust off your Quidditch sticks, because the new play Harry Potter And The Cursed Child has now been cast. Jamie Parker, one of the original History Boys who is currently starring in Guys And Dolls at London’s Savoy Theatre, is to star as a grown-up Harry Potter. Harry is now a father of three, who works for the Ministry Of Magic.
TV regular Paul Thornley is the adult Ron Weasley, who is now married to Hermione Granger. In a triumph of casting, Hermione is to be played by black actress Noma Dumezweni. Olivier award-winning actress Dumezweni recently replaced Sex And The City’s Kim Cattrall, who had to pull out of starring in the play Linda due to illness. Linda is currently sold out at London’s Royal Court Theatre except for the January 4, 2016 performance when £10 day tickets will go on sale online at 9am on the same day.
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is based on a new original story by J.K. Rowling herself, Oliver and TONY award-winner John Tiffany, who will also direct the stage production, and writer Jack Thorne, who gave us episodes of Skins and This Is England ’88 and ’90.
Harry Potter And The Cursed Child opens on September 21, 2016 and runs until May 27, 2017 at London’s Palace Theatre, and will be performed over two parts. You can see both parts on the same day or two consecutive evenings, or book tickets for individual performances. Many dates are already sold out, but there is limited availability until the end of 2016, and better availability for dates in 2017.
