Mercedes-Benz have launched a new collaboration project with the late Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton artistic director Virgil Abloh named ‘MAYBACH By Virgil Abloh’.
This project is the result of a collaboration between automotive and fashion. The collection is not only limited to the new S-Class car but also a collection of clothing designed by Alboh himself and the Off-White brand. The collection includes shirts, hoodies, gloves, and more.
The iconic G-Class has broken new ground in innovative design and will be for sale in only 150 units, and will be available on Off-White, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury. The design is featured in a two-tone color comboination and it was finalized before Virgil Abloh’s death in November 2021, with Mercedes-Benz’s chief design officer Gorden Wagener.
Abloh and Mercedes-Benz had previously collaborated on the Mercedes-Maybach S680 tagged ‘Project Maybach’, however this new collaboration marks the ‘Final Chapter’ in the partnership between Abloh and Wagener. Abloh was a real car enthusiast and this could bring perspective to this collaboration as well as a designer expert point of view.
The new S-Class model is a two-tone solar-powered car, unlike the original show car the for-sale version of Maybach by Virgil Abloh is not electric. Mercedes has promised a fully electric Maybach model in 2023.
The designer believes the intention for this model and collaboration was to “unrivaled luxury design experience”, they are hoping to bring a unique legacy car by this collection.
