Michael B. Jordan is in talks to star in the aptly named Sony Pictures drama, A Journal For Jordan. The film will be Denzel Washington‘s next project as a director, and will tell the true story of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Dana Canedy‘s love affair with First Sergeant Charles Monroe King.
King, while deployed overseas, kept a journal full of poignant life lessons for their newborn son, Jordan. He was killed in Iraq in 2006 when Jordan was just seven months old, but his spirit lived on through his messages of love to Dana and Jordan.
Washington will direct from a script penned by Virgil Williams (Mudbound). He adapted Canedy’s best-selling 2008 memoir. Jordan is in negotiations to play First Sergeant King, and also produce via his Outlier Society banner.
Washington and Jordan teaming up would obviously be incredible. Jordan is on a hell of a run right now, and is threatening to become our next great movie star. After stealing the show in Black Panther, he returned for Creed II. Since then, he’s signed on for exciting projects such as the legal drama Just Mercy, assassination thriller The Silver Bear, and an adaptation of Tom Clancy‘s Without Remorse.
Alongside that, Jordan’s Outlier Society is one of the first production companies to adopt the inclusion rider. It has first-look deals at both Warner Bros. and Amazon studios, with several enticing projects in the works, such as an adaptation of the fantasy novel Black Leopard, Red Wolf, and the WWII action drama The Liberators.
Washington has previously directed three films, including the Oscar-winning Fences a few years ago. He starred in those films, but isn’t expected to take on an acting role here. A Journal For Jordan sounds captivating. We’ll now wait on more news regarding the project.
