Emmy-nominated actor Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls, Heroes) will star as Jennifer Lopez‘s love interest in the upcoming romantic comedy, Second Act.
Ventimiglia recently received an Emmy nomination for Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his role in This Is Us, and now joins Lopez in a film that’s being described as being in the vein of a previous Lopez romcom, Maid In Manhattan.
Lopez will play a big-box store employee who reinvents her life and lifestyle, and gets a chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as a college degree.
The film is written by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zackham (Lights Out). Leah Remini is attached to play Lopez’s best friend while Vanessa Hudgens will play an executive at a consumer goods company. The film will be directed by Peter Segal (50 First Dates, The Longest Yard).
There’s been somewhat of a romcom renaissance recently, with crowd-pleasing films such as Girls Trip and Home Again making the rounds.
While the genre is no longer the reliable, top of the box office juggernaut it once was in the days of When Harry Met Sally and co., it would be refreshing to see a new bout of solid romcoms breathe some new life into the genre. Let’s hope Second Act can be one of those.
