Innovative underground music pioneer MJ Cole coincides the release of his highly anticipated EP Waking Up EP with a brand new visual. Directed by Fil Fury, MJ Cole releases the video for the haunting and beguiling titular lead single featuring Freya Ridings.
The visuals stun in its beautiful simplicity and really emanate childlike innocence. It centres on a young boy surrounded by his bike and other belongings floating slowly and delicately up towards the ceiling in an ornate room of an old country mansion; spliced further with shots of him riding in the countryside.
MJ Cole shared:
“I always had a Gothic cathedral-like setting in mind…The idea of floating, levitating, came from Fil and the visuals compliment the record perfectly. It brought a tear to my eye to see the first draft. It was meant to be. I’ve been lucky enough to have had some incredible videos accompany music I’ve worked on over time but this one really takes the throne….”
The Waking Up EP is the second in a series of EPs dropping throughout the year. Featuring two new singles; “Serotonin” and “Mercy” with Kudu Blue, it speaks volumes on MJ Cole’s talent and diversity of sound as he continues to prove himself as one of the most prolific songwriters and producers of our time.

Sorry, I have watched this so many times. I think the video does a disservice to one of the greatest songs I have heard in a very long time. This isn’t intended to attack but I think the right video would promote this song to the level it should be recognized at.
