When MJ Cole called upon the help of rising star Kojey Radical for this latest collaboration, we knew it was going to be nothing short of a smash. To take things to a higher level, the duo have come together to release a long awaited video for the emotive yet feel-good track “Soak It Up“.
Dealing with the grief of losing a loved one is tough and the Filmawi-directed visual really brings the concept to life. We find Kojey and family gathered in a room still and silent in a state of mourning. With the loss still new and the emotions still raw, it seems like the energy and the soul of the dearly departed still lives on as they rise again through the medium of interpretive dance, twisting and turning through the room.
Speaking to The FADER, Cole said: “’Soak it Up‘ is a track about loss, turmoil, and ultimately acceptance in a relationship of another’s flaws. The song started life as an instrumental that grew from me improvising at the piano. I then incorporated some home-made samples and let Kojey work his magic on top. The visuals represent beautifully the sense of loss that Kojey so poetically describes.”
