In 1983, when the enigmatic Franco Moschino burst onto Milan’s fashion scene, he captivated the world with his theatrical and whimsical designs.
Moschino quickly became synonymous with playful irreverence, seen in his pop-art inspired creations and parodies of Chanel‘s iconic tweed suits.
Throughout the brand’s history, Moschino’s flamboyant spirit has been faithfully upheld by his successors, notably his close friend Rosella Jardini, and more recently, Jeremy Scott.
In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Moschino is set to host a fashion show in Milan on September 21. This event seeks to pay homage to its founder, Franco Moschino, and his enduring influence on fashion. In this grand commemoration, four selected stylists will create ten contemporary outfits, each inspired by the late designer’s innovative works.
The company has not yet announced a successor to fill the shoes of Jeremy Scott, the former creative director, who parted ways with Moschino in March, following a remarkable ten-year tenure.
Scott’s influence was so profound that for many, Moschino is synonymous with his vision. However, this perception is poised to evolve as the tenure of creative directors in the fashion industry becomes increasingly fleeting.
Scott is credited with catapulting Moschino back into the limelight with his designs inspired by pop culture. His daring and humorous creativity spared no intellectual property, spanning from McDonald’s to Barbie.
Under Scott’s direction, Moschino emerged as a darling of pop star style, adored by icons such as Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, and the incomparable Madonna.
