Last January, Nigerian rapper living in Atlanta, Kelechi, won Mountain Dew’s Open Call Contest, the prize included $50,000 to make an album with Greenlabel, A trip to Austin to perform at SXSW 2015, and a music video shot by Complex Media. This week, Kelechi released his album, titled Before The Quarter. The album features big names including BJ The Chicago Kid, Nate Fox and fellow Atlanta rapper, Trinidad James.
Kelechi celebrated the release with a Reddit AMA. In recent history, he has toured with the likes of Waka Flocka Flame and Chance The Rapper, as well as signed a booking deal with Cara Lewis, the booking agent for big names such as Kanye West and Eminem.
He describes the release as a series of letters wrote to himself as well as the listener, and expands on this theme on beforethequarter.com. The album is available on Soundcloud, and supposedly will be on major streaming platforms in the near future.
