Møya Rey, the Brooklyn-based independent recording artist, has released a new single titled “BACK UP”, which blends amapiano, house, drill, and hip-hop, as well as lyrics in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The track is inspired by her experiences of being cat-called while visiting her family in the South Bronx. The lyrics of the song speak to the frustration and annoyance of the artist with these unwanted advances from men.
møya rey grew up in New York City and has traveled to more than twenty countries, which has given her a unique perspective on different cultures and styles of music. Her latest single, “BACK UP,” was inspired by her travels to South Africa, where she explored different regions and immersed herself in the local culture. She was particularly drawn to Amapiano/AfroHouse music and has incorporated it into her own sound.
The artist has a passion for black diasporic connections and is a professor of Black and Latinx Studies at just 25 years old. Her new single reflects her dedication to honoring black identity and exploring the nuances of black expression in her music.
“BACK UP” is produced, recorded, and engineered by BSNYEA, and incorporates an Amapiano baseline with drill beats, a Dominican güira, Brazilian cuíca, and Brazilian Funk at the end.
