South Coast based Nakala and long-term producer/engineer Brad Baker are a powerhouse duo, with a host of credible singles to their names. Earlier this year, Nakala’s debut EP Owe It To You was met by amazing reception, garnering over 3 million streams on Spotify which caught the attention of heavyweight curators.
The songstress has been building a solid catalogue by releasing consistently and “Oh Girl“, is the brand new follow up single from her upcoming project GIRL. Nakala takes influence from the likes of Usher and Ne-Yo, alongside producers Brad and Jonah who’s influences are noted as Frank Ocean and Bryson Tiller.
Together they bring all the right flavours to make contemporary nu-RnB with an energetic and 90’s nostalgic twist which harkens on that feeling when you’re in that difficult situation after a breakup. Nakala’s inimitable swagger and distinct flow emits a natural melody and works in perfect synergy with the potent vibe, making this the perfect soundtrack to almost any situation.
Speaking on Oh Girl, Nakala says: “I wrote Oh Girl after I got back with my ex girlfriend and all her friends would say ‘Ohhhh girrrl’. Things were going well for me around that time, life was good and this was my theme song for it”.
