For some inexplicable reason, Hollywood seems averse to putting Nathan Fillion in every film currently in development. It feels like a perfectly reasonable request; one shared by millions of fans worldwide. Fillion, who became a cult sensation after starring in Joss Whedon‘s Firefly, has had and on-again-off-again relationship with feature film, seemingly preferring the small screen to its larger counterpart – Fillion currently leads ABC‘s Castle. But with family friendly genre films dominating the Summer box office, are we wrong to expect a little more screen-time for such a charismatic, dashing lead?
Now, we may have had our first hint of Nathan Fillion‘s rekindled interest in feature cinema. At last weekend’s Chicago Wizard World Comic Con, Fillion – attending the Firefly Q&A panel – was asked, given the choice, which comic book hero would he like to portray on screen. The answer; Booster Gold. Booster, a long-standing member of DC‘s Justice League, is a superhero without powers. “I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche: show-offy, vain… I think I could handle that. Not too bright“, Fillion confessed.
Thanks to a whole lot of powerful loot he stole from a museum, Booster Gold can fly, create force-fields, and exert strength equal to many other mainstream heroes in the DC Universe. He is a show-boat, who initially uses his knowledge of the future to gain fame and fortune, however with time and tragedy, Booster becomes one of the heroes he idolises. Check out the video below courtesy of ComicBook.com, to see what Fillion had to say about his potential choice of roles.
While actors displaying interest in their favourite superheroes has become fairly common on the internet; both Donal Glover and Tyrese Gibson have lobbied for roles recently, we are still to see results from fan led campaigns. After an overhyped voice role in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) the internet is hanging on Fillion‘s every word for a hint of a cape or super suit, let’s hope DC also has an ear aimed in this direction.
