Whether Alien: Covenant will turn out to be any good remains to be seen but the marketing team is certainly doing its part to create huge buzz around the film. Another trailer has dropped following the release of the prologue short film, Last Supper, last week, and there’s no doubt we’re now in true horror territory.
The trailer eschews the clean, mysterious aesthetic that Prometheus captured in favour of a darker, grimier look more reminiscent of Scott’s original 1979 film. It looks like the outside environment will be a large part of the film and that the horror element will be in full force, with a enticing glimpse of the slightly updated Xenomorph at the end of the trailer having us licking our lips.
Oh, and can we talk about what a superb tagline that is? “The path to paradise begins in hell” might be the “in space, no one can hear you scream” for the new generation.
Alien: Covenant will hope to live up to its promise when its released on Friday, May 19. The film stars Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby.
