Shaft is an iconic crime drama, named after its main protagonist John Shaft. The character first came to light in 1971, the film then was an adapted TV series, and Richard Roundtree was the star to portray the character at this time. Perhaps Shaft is more identifiable these days by Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal of the character – albeit as the original John Shaft’s nephew – in the 2000 remake, that movie is also famous for its iconic soundtrack written by Isaac Hayes, originally written for Stax Records until other record companies bought the music. A new version of Shaft is apparently in the pipeline and being considered by New Line Cinema, reportedly being spearheaded by veteran producer John Davis.
