New ‘Rings’ Trailer Released: ‘Samara Does Not Forgive’ | Film Trailers

The original film, The Ring, from 2002 was an adaptation of Japanese film, Ringu, by Hideo Nakata, which was in turn based on a novel by Kôji Suzuki. It received a huge cult following and starred Noami Watts as the protagonist, Rachel, who discovered a disturbing video whilst investigating her nieces death. After watching the video in question the viewer received a phone call telling them that they have seven days left to live.

The second film, in what is soon to become a trilogy, was The Ring Two, which Hideo Nakata himself directed. This would lead many of us to assume that the film was a hit but in actuality it didn’t go down well and received very low ratings. Most likely due to this reaction to the sequel, it has taken over a decade for there to be third installment in the series.

Rings has been confirmed as a new addition and chapter in the series as opposed to a remake of the original film and is being directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez. The cast will include stars such as Vincent D’Onofrio (The Magnificent Seven, Daredevil, Jurassic World), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, Entourage), Laura Wiggins (20th Century Women, CSI, The Tomorrow People) and Aimee Teegarden (Notorious, The Ranch, Bakery In Brooklyn).

Samara (the creepy ghost girl that bends in ways no one should) will be portrayed by a different actress than the previous films due to the effects of time on children (it tends to turn them into adults).

Rings is scheduled to be in cinemas Friday, February 3.
