A24, an American independent entertainment company which has become one of the most respected in the industry, has just shared a new trailer for their project entitled The Killing Of A Sacred Deer.
The film is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, known for his former projects Dogtooth, Alps, and The Lobster.
For his fans, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer is a little bit different compared to his others. Lanthimos’ films are usually characterized by surreal and disconnected dialogues which make it more difficult to understand the movie. This time, even if he maintains his typical oddities and mystery, the plot is far more linear and logical without losing the director’s signature style.
This film, which was also presented at the Cannes Film Festival this year, leaves the audience with a lot of questions throughout, compelling them to keep watching in hopes of finding answers. Indeed going on, it is discovered that everything is connected to the past of the characters. In this way, the movie starts as a drama and finishes as a psychological thriller/horror film.
Many critics claimed that Lanthimos’ shooting style and soundtrack choices are reminiscent of Kubrick while also incorporating elements of Haneke’s sadism.
In a fashion different from many recent social critique pieces, Lanthimos prefers to work from ancient themes typical of the greek tragedy or Christianity such as those of Euripides or the Bible.
The cast is also promising, featuring stars such as Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell. Expectations are high for the film and it is due to be released on November, 3, 2017.
