Newcastle Songstress Martha Hill Unveils New Single ‘In My Future’

On April 25, Newcastle artist Martha Hill released her new single titled “In My Future”. It was recorded with Sam Fender collaborator Bramwell Bronteis, and it sees Martha talking about her dreams and losses.

Before this new offering, Martha’s two previous releases had been featured on BBC 6 Music, and supported by BBC Radio 1, Spotify, and “In My Future” is only set to build on this success.

At the age of 17, Martha Hill left her rural Scottish home to travel across Europe for a year before settling in Newcastle and breaking into the UK music scene.

She writes left-field pop music that’s both hard-hitting and catchy as well. Her introspective storytelling delivers socially conscious themes over a backdrop of guitars, cellos, and synths, taking advantage of reinvention and fusion.

Like all musicians, the pandemic curtailed Martha’s plans, but taking this challenge in stride, she released an acoustic EP that included covers of tracks from her debut EP Be Still. She recorded the whole EP in her living room and her bandmate Rob Griffiths mixed it, and songs from the EP garnered support across BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music.

Speaking about “In My Future”, Martha says, “In My Future is all about big dreams, small dreams. It starts reasonably; to not be poor, or unhappy, or alone, but as the song goes on, the dreams get less realistic and you start wishing things weren’t how they were, or you’d done something different, or they’d done something different. It’s about loss and it’s about dreams, and where those two are the same”.

Martha Hill’s journey is just beginning, but it’s amazing what you can accomplish when you carve your own path.
