Nicolas Cage is on a comeback trail of sorts after spending many years making direct-to-VOD action movies to help him sort out some financial issues.
Within the last year he’s starred in the acclaimed Pig, interesting horror films Prisoners of the Ghostland and Willy’s Wonderland, and meta comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
He’s most certainly back to pop cultural relevance, and will look to continue his reemergence by starring in Dream Sequence, a new comedy in development at A24. Kristoffer Borgli will write and direct and A24 favourite Ari Aster will produce alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner.
Details about the film are being kept close to the vest; all we really know is that the film will be a comedy. But A24 have proven to be a company that consistently delivers interesting and quality films, so just knowing Cage is working with them is exciting enough.
Cage has a bunch of projects lined up, including an adaptation of John Williams‘ classic western novel Butcher’s Crossing (which will premiere later this month), action film The Retirement Plan, another western in The Old Way, and he’s also onboard to play Dracula in Chris McKay‘s horror-comedy Renfield. Hopefully Cage gives us plenty of Vampire’s Kiss vibes with that one.
A24 recently released slasher film Bodies Bodies Bodies, animated feature Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, and indie black comedy Funny Pages.
The company’s next films are Pearl, Ti West‘s prequel to his horror film X from earlier this year, and psychological drama God’s Creatures.
Expect more news regarding Dream Sequence to arrive soon.
