J.M Barrie’s classic children’s tale Peter Pan has had a shiny new adaption. A brand new poster for Pan was unveiled online yesterday, just in time for the movie’s cast to appear at San Diego Comic-Con. The movie will star Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, Garret Headlund and Levi Miller in a re-telling that reveals the origin of the Peter Pan legend in the events preceding Barrie’s book. As the tagline states ‘Every Legend Has A Beginning’.
Directed by Joe Wright, Pan takes us to the very beginning. Peter (Miller) as an orphaned child in wartime Britain is kidnapped by the pirate Blackbeard (Jackman) and brought to Neverland. Jackman’s character is clearly the villain in this movie with his (verging on S&M wear) feathered, leather costume and devilishly evil eyebrow game. The unexpected character twist is that traditional Peter Pan villain Captain Hook will instead be an ally in this feature.
‘Hook’ (Headlund) is a young Indiana Jones style hero prior to his destiny of mutilation by crocodile and arch nemesis status. Mara plays Tiger Lily, a tribal princess that can raise Peter from boy to warrior. The film also features Amanda Seyfried as Peter’s lost mother and Cara Delevingne, wonderfully cast as a mermaid. Pan is due for release on the 16th of October this year. Watch the trailer here.
