Olivia Scott Welch To Star In Noir Film ‘The Blue Rose’

Olivia Scott Welch, who was just seen in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy, has signed on to star in noir film The Blue Rose. She will star alongside George Baron, who is also writing and directing in his feature debut.

The film is described as a surreal genre-bender. It’s set in the 1950s and follows the one-night journey of two rookie detectives as they set out to solve a homicide, only to find themselves in an alternate reality made up of their worst nightmares. Athena Pictures’ Sarena Khan and Andra Gordon are producing the film. They said in a statement:

“We are so thrilled to support George in bringing his wonderfully inventive vision to life — one of those rare gems that defies expectations at every turn. Olivia Scott Welch perfectly embodies the character of Detective Lilly, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome her to the team.”

Welch has had a good year, starring Netflix’s trilogy of Fear Street films, based on the books of R.L. Stine, as well as Amazon’s new teen drama series, Panic. She’s also been seen in indie drama Shithouse and Netflix’s limited crime series, Unbelievable.

Baron is a multi-hyphenate who previously starred in the film Adult Interference. We’ll see how he handles a potentially complex mix of genres with his debut feature behind the camera. Production on The Blue Rose is due to kick off in Los Angeles next month.
