Years & Years has released a new single “Starstruck”, which will be the first release since the band revealed a month ago that it would now function as a solo project by singer Olly Alexander.
After being formed in 2010, Years & Years quickly established itself in the UK music scene with synth melodies, catchy pop tracks and the signature voice of its singer Olly Alexander. The group reached the height of its popularity in 2015 with the track “King”, the sixth single from their debut album Communion.
A few years later, the band released a second album titled Palo Santo, which included the famous track “If You’re Over Me”.
Although the trio is no longer, Years and Years therefore continue to exist, with Emre Türkmen and Mikey Goldsworthy remaining linked to future projects.
In early 2021, Olly Alexander starred in Russell T Davies‘s new series It’s A Sin, but he returned to music with the release of “Starstruck”, a funk/pop track, heralding a new era for Years & Years, and an upcoming third album – the singer recently revealed to NME that he record an entire album during the lockdown last spring.
In the music video for “Starstruck”, we can follow an Olly Alexander fleeing an altered version of himself, in a deserted house.
“Like most of us I’ve spent the past year at home, and I wanted to create something super positive and fun for people (and myself) to bop along too. Whatever we’re doing or wherever we are in life, I think we all deserve three minutes of interstellar ecstasy“, he explains.
