Last Sunday live from the Oscar red carpet Whoopi Goldberg featured in an exclusive interview on Sky News in which she was asked about the recent race scandal regarding the lack of ethnic nominees at Oscars 2016.
Goldberg responded with an intriguing answer suggesting that the Oscar so white scandal would soon be forgotten in a few months time because most people don’t necessarily feel offended by it. Whoopi Goldberg is hinting the fact that the Oscar 2016 race controversy was over exaggerated from the beginning by the media purely for publicity reasons and that the Academy was unfairly and negatively portrayed as an enemy to diversity and inclusion within the industry.
Whoopi Goldberg is an active and influential member of the Academy as well as being the first African American women to win an Oscar for her performance as best supporting actress in Ghost. Goldberg is very well respected and admired by her fellow black actors in Hollywood and her opinion on the recent race controversy holds a lot of influence and integrity.
Whether every black actor and actress agrees with Whoopi Goldberg’s defence of the Academy is highly unlikely but her insight, knowledge and experience she witholds within the American film industry cannot be undervalued as she is one of the most successful black actors/ comedians that Hollywood has ever produced.
