There are even more reasons to be excited for Ari Aster‘s Midsommar follow-up, Disappointment Blvd., as Parker Posey, Zoe Lister-Jones, Hayley Squires, and Denis Ménochet have all joined star Joaquin Phoenix in the film.
This is the second big batch of casting announcements after Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers and Pattie LuPone signed on back in June.
What the film is actually about remains under wraps. We know it will follow a successful entrepreneur through an intimate story that spans decades, but that’s about it. It’s unclear if Disappointment Blvd. will see Aster step away from the horror genre that has gained him popularity so quickly, or whether he’s set to serve up another plate of disturbing terror.
Like his first two features, Hereditary and Midsommar, Disappointment Blvd. is being funded by A24. Lars Knudsen is producing, having been behind other A24 films such as American Honey, The Witch, and Robert Eggers‘ upcoming film The Northman.
Posey is a 90s indie icon who is usually the best part of any film she turns up in. She was last seen on the big screen in 2019’s comedy-drama Elsewhere, while she also appeared in an episode of Hulu’s High Fidelity last year.
Lister-Jones had a main role on sitcom Life In Pieces for four seasons but has recently broken out as a writer-director, helming films such as the The Craft: Legacy, the excellent comedy-drama Band Aid, and recent indie release How It Ends, which she also stars in.
There’s no news on the roles any of these actors will be playing in Disappointment Blvd., nor when shooting begins, or when the film is scheduled to be released. But all that will arrive soon enough, as it will be hard for production to keep a lid on details for a film this anticipated.
