Entertainment Weekly has exclusively confirmed American Horror Story’s beloved character, and fan favourite ‘Pepper’ WILL be returning for the shows newest season American Horror Story: Freak Show. Rumours sparked this July after a call sheet featuring series regulars such as; Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates were leaked to the public. Fans were both surprised and excited to read Naomi Grossman would be playing Pepper again, a character first introduced in season two; American Horror Story: Asylum.
As the hit show is known for consistently changing its character, time and setting each season, producer Ryan Murphy has indicated their decision to feature Pepper was thought out thoroughly. Murphy explained, “we thought about it long and hard and we decided that it was interesting to do”. Pepper first appeared as a resident of the Briarcliff Manor mental asylum after she was wrongly accused of murdering her sister’s baby. Freak Show will be set 12 years prior to this, and will see Pepper as a performer for Elsa Mars’ (Jessica Lange) circus ‘freak show’. The highly anticipated season is set to premiere on October 8, 2014 and I believe Pepper’s appearance will make a great intertextual reference for all American Horror Story fans.
