Having worked together on Saturday Night Live for years, Pete Davidson and Colin Jost are now ready to collaborate on the big screen.
Per Variety, the duo are on board to star in a wedding comedy titled Worst Man for Universal. It’s based on an original idea pitched by Jost, Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman.
The film follows a soon-to-be-married couple and the family dramatics that ensue just weeks before the wedding. That’s pretty much all we know. So maybe expect something like a mix between the Adam Sandler/Chris Rock Netflix comedy The Week Of, and Wedding Crashers.
The studio is still reportedly searching for a director, and the project is still in development so it’s possible there isn’t a completed script yet.
Davidson has had a good year career-wise, starring in Big Time Adolescence and Judd Apatow‘s The King Of Staten Island, while also releasing a Netflix comedy special titled Alive From New York.
He’s also got a role in James Gunn‘s upcoming The Suicide Squad. Jost is set to release his memoir A Very Punchable Face next month, and will also appear in the upcoming Tom & Jerry live-action/animation hybrid film.
Hopefully these two car harness their SNL chemistry into similar success on the silver screen. Comedies like this used to be multiplex staples but are now usually resigned to Netflix and the like. We’ll see how this one performs, although who knows what the cinematic landscape will look like in a few months, let alone in a few years?
