Ant-Man was suspiciously absent when Marvel announced their Phase 4 slate of films back in the summer. However, fans of the pint-sized hero shouldn’t fear, as a third Ant-Man movie is reportedly in the works with Peyton Reed returning to direct.
There’s no cast confirmed yet, but expect Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas and co. to all return. Marvel has yet to name a writer, so it’s possible a script isn’t even ready yet. The film is expected to shoot at the end of next year or possibly early 2021. The film will follow Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and Thor: Love And Thunder in the Marvel production pipeline.
Reed directed both previous Ant-Man films, taking over from Edgar Wright on the 2015 film. Wright dropping out was a source of frustration for many at the time, but Reed has been an adequate replacement. Plus, it always felt like Wright’s creative juices would be stunted by the MCU machine anyway (which is reportedly why he left the project).
Prior in his career, Reed has films such as Bring It On, Yes Man and the underrated 50s pastiche Down With Love on his resume. He’s always been an unsung filmmaker who’s finally getting his due. Hopefully Marvel giving him his chance to complete his Ant-Man trilogy means the third film ties a nice bow around Scott Lang and friends.
