Filming begins today on the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them sequel at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, outside London.
Harry Potter writer JK Rowling has written the screenplay as she did the original, which netted $814 million at box office. The sequel takes place in 1927 and largely follows the pursuit of Grindelwald after he has escaped from prison.
The film will see Jude Law‘s debut as young Dumbledore, played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter series. Johnny Depp will reprise his part as young Gellert Grindelwald for which he made a brief appearance in the first installment of Fantastic Beasts. Eddie Redmayne naturally returns as Newt Scamander.
The film is the second in a series of five that have been commisioned, with some speculating that the final will take place “in 1945, which is known to be the date of a final duel between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, during which the latter was finally overpowered and imprisoned“.
Fantastic Beasts 2 is due to hit theatres November 16, 2018.
