Following the release of his surprise project, On The House, in November, East London rapper, Rageouz, kicks off 2017 with his Vman produced track, “Van Gogh”. He began rapping at the age of 11 at school. Inspired by the likes of Kano and Dizzee Rascal, he would write lyrics which he would later use in clashes between him and friends during lunchtime.
“Van Gogh” has a curious, almost mischievous melody opening it, amidst a De Niro skit before the song proper. It continues in this vein with the rattle and clap of drum. Intermittent deep, deep bass adds extra mood as Rageouz laces clever, tight wordplay. Things grind to a halt, snapping you out of the reverie of the hypnotic beat.
