Rian Johnson To Write & Direct Mystery TV Series ‘Poker Face’ Starring Natasha Lyonne | TV News

Natasha Lyonne has already starred in one acclaimed series for a streamer in the form of Netflix’s Russian Doll. She may be in line for another, as she’s on board to star in Poker Face, a new mystery TV series Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out) is writing and directing for NBC’s Peacock streaming service.

Peacock has issued a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes for the hour-long mystery show from T-Street and MRC Television. Lyonne will also executive produce through her production company Animal Pictures.

“I’m very excited to dig into the type of fun, character-driven, case-of-the-week mystery goodness I grew up watching”, Johnson said in a statement. “It’s my happy place. Having Natasha as a partner in crime is a dream, and we’ve found the perfect home at Peacock”.

Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming added: Rian Johnson‘s distinct sensibility and talent for telling edge-of-your-seat mysteries is a massive gift for Peacock, and we can’t wait for audiences to delve into each case. Paired with the acting genius of Natasha Lyonne, this series will be entertaining and addictive”.

So what’s the show actually about? Well according to Collider, a source close to the project explained that it’s modeled after detective shows of the 70s and 80s, but Johnson and Lyonne will put their own spin on things.

So there’s not much to go on yet, but Johnson helming another mystery project after the much-loved and Oscar-winning Knives Out is a cause for celebration, as is another lead role for the perennially underrated Lyonne.

Lyonne is currently all-in on season two of Russian Doll, a big investment since she’s co-creator, co-writer, director and star. Production on season two is currently underway. Johnson is working on a Knives Out follow-up as well as Netflix’s The Three-Body Problem alongside Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Poker Face currently doesn’t have a release date or anything like that. But this should be a much-hyped show, so more information should arrive soon.
