Faye Fantarrow, a rising artist from Sunderland and singer-songwriter, has released her new single, ‘AWOL’, on Dave Stewart‘s Bay Street Records.
The song perfectly captures Faye’s distinctive sound, which combines thundering rhythm, soulful alternative tones, and her distinctive voice.
Fantarrow’s varied folk and rhythm and blues influences are on full display in “AWOL”, which has a very contemporary feel with retro overtones.
Fantarrow’s debut is due out in 2021 on Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics’ Bay Street Records, and it follows the devastating news that she has a Glioma brain tumour, an incredibly uncommon and potentially fatal condition.
Fantarrow, who was named to the BBC Introducing ‘Ones To Watch 2022’ list and who won Alan Hull‘s annual Songwriting Award in 2021 (the founder of Lindisfarne), had really battled and beaten leukaemia twice since her initial diagnosis at the age of eight.
It came as a heartbreaking blow when this new tumour was found when she was working with Stewart on her debut album.
Faye Fantarrow says: “Life very rarely goes to plan but the plan was always to write, sing and perform and I’ve been lucky to be able to do that. AWOL is the title track from my forthcoming EP which I am so proud of and the fantastic opportunity I was given to work and record with Dave Stewart will be forever special to me“.
The 20-year-old sensation was discovered by Stewart, who has supported her as an artist, producer, co-writer, and friend. Stewart says:
