Amanda Seyfried Reuniting With Director Atom Egoyan For ‘Seven Veils’

Amanda Seyfried has signed on to star in Seven Veils, a new thriller from director Atom Egoyan. The two previously worked together on 2009 thriller Chloe.

Seyfried will play Jeanine, an earnest theater director who’s been given the daunting task of remounting her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera Salome. Haunted by dark memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to color the present as she re-enters the opera world after many years.

Egoyan is both writing and directing. He said in a statement: “I first produced Salome for the Canadian Opera Company almost 30 years ago and have been haunted by its themes. This is a project I’ve been dreaming about for years and it’s such a thrill to be reunited with Amanda after the amazing experience we had together making Chloe.”

Egoyan is a Canadian filmmaker whose haunting psychological dramas such as Speaking Parts, The Adjuster, Exotica, and The Sweet Hereafter made him a favourite among cinephiles in the 80s and 90s. After a lean run over the last decade, he recently returned to form with the David Thewlis-led Guest of Honour. Hopefully Seven Veils is another step back towards his best.

Seyfried recently won an Emmy for her portrayal of disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s The Dropout. She’s also set to star alongside Tom Holland in Apple TV+ anthology series The Crowded Room. Seven Veils will be her first film since 2021’s A Mouthful Of Air.

Seven Veils is being co-financed by XYZ Films with the participation of Telefilm Canada. Seyfried is a late addition to the film, as it’s set to begin filming in Toronto next week.
