Rotterdam-based singers-songwriters Nana M. Rose and Alison Jutta have just released a new collaboration titled “On and On and On”.
The song merge both artists’ styles very well, using Nana’s rousing ballad style to complement Alison’s more upbeat indie pop vibe, with the song finding a meeting ground between folk music and neoclassical music.
Following the deaths of close family friends, the two songwriters pondered on their common experiences on this song, with Alison explaining about the song: “’On and On and On’ that strange realization that even the people that you had assumed would be there until the end of time would disappear at one point in time”.
Nana adds that, “Alison is one of my closest friends so it was really special to dive into depth about our shared experience. We spent quite some time on the lyrics to get it just right and each session almost felt like a therapy session and a way to deal with the loss”.
“On And On And On” does not attempt to elicit tears or grief, but rather tries to provide comfort and sympathy to the listener.
Nana and Alison find the right words to express the sadness, with phrases like “now you’re in the wind and forever safe like the breeze on my skin” conjuring up images that allow us to conceive a way to keep our loved ones with us and feel them all about us, even after they’ve passed away
Nana and Alison proceeded on to the recording stage, with help from a drummer in Utrecht and a bassist in Cyprus, as well as strings from Amsterdam and horn from Rotterdam, all made possible through home recording setups.
The song became a fully European production via a mixing session in London with Nana’s go-to producer Louis Souyave (Maddox Jones, Salt Ashes).
